The Armour That Holds You Up

As winter slowly loosens its grip and the first signs of spring begin to appear, many of us start to feel a quiet shift. The days grow a little longer, the light returns, and the world begins to look alive again.

Spring gently reminds us that renewal is possible.

Yet even as nature changes around us, life can still feel heavy.

Responsibilities, worries, and expectations don’t disappear with the change of season. Often, without even realising it, we start putting on a kind of “armour” just to get through the day.

We project confidence when we feel uncertain.
We stay busy so we don’t have to slow down.
We try to control everything because the unknown feels uncomfortable.

From the outside, it can look like strength. But inside, it can be exhausting.

In Ephesians 6:10–20, the apostle Paul speaks about a very different kind of armour, the “armour of God.” And he begins with a reminder that shifts the entire conversation: “Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.”

Paul does not tell believers to rely on their own strength. Instead, he points them toward the strength that God provides.

This armour is not about pretending to be strong or impressing others. It is about standing firm in the truth of who God is and who we are in Him.

Paul describes truth that holds our lives together, righteousness that protects our hearts, peace that steadies our steps, and faith that shields us when doubts and fears come. He reminds us that salvation guards our minds with hope and that God’s Word guides us when we feel unsure.

Each piece points to the same reality: our security is not built on our performance but on God’s grace.

Paul also reminds us that many of our struggles are deeper than they first appear. The battle is not simply against difficult people or challenging circumstances. Often it is a spiritual struggle against discouragement, fear, and the lies that try to shape how we see ourselves and God.

That is why prayer is so central. At the end of the passage, Paul encourages believers to pray at all times. Prayer keeps us connected to the One who gives strength. It is not about perfect words, but about honestly bringing our lives before God.

As we step into a new season, this passage offers a simple but powerful encouragement: we do not have to carry life alone.

Instead of wearing the armour we create to hide our struggles, we are invited to receive the armour God gives: truth, peace, faith, and hope that hold us steady.

And when difficult days come, we can still stand.

Not because we are unstoppable, but because God is faithful.
